|Brca1 and me||
It would be fair to say my after care after my oophorectomy has been a little lacking. They literally whipped them out, sent me home with a couple of bottles of liquid morphine and that was it. No advice on how to deal with the menopause, what to expect, nutritional advice (going through the menopause so young puts me at higher risk of developing osteoporosis and heart disease). So for the last 9 months I've been going it alone.
Saw my lovely doctor a few weeks ago to get some advice & today I have had a bone density scan to check nothing is crumbling.
Machine was a bit like something out of Star Trek. One leg strapped to the table as a metal armed went back and worth shooting a laser beam over my hips and spine. Found myself to be quite fascinated by the beam, staring gormlessly at it for 10 minutes while the scans were taken. Wasn't until the machine was switched off I notice the yellow warning sticker 'DO NOT STARE AT LASER BEAM'. Sod crumbling bones, I might soon be going blind!!!
